Maid Cafe with two old maids at Akihabara Maidcafe Pinafore

Well you'd heard of guys going to maid cafe and couples going to maid cafe, so I thought I'd write something special, like... "two old maids going to a maid cafe" instead... ...

So I read up some blogs about their maid cafe experience and true enough, there were maids at the streets everywhere in Akihabara so it was really easy to find one after exiting from the Denkigai (電気街口) exit. We met the maid from Pinafore, who told us that there is a 500yen table charge and if it was ok with us. Of course, we said yes and she escorted us to their cafe and tried to make some conversation, which is usually like: where did you come from, are you here for holiday, yada yada yada... The cafe was quite empty because the location was secluded and it was a weekday, so there were only a couple and a salaryman? My friend and I chose to sit with our backs against the wall and the maid was shocked. I guess pairs usually sit opposite of each other in Japan?

As "beginners", she recommended us a course that includes the table charge, a drink, an omelette rice and a photo with the girls for 3000yen. No pictures were allowed except for the food. We could choose either the sweet drink (usually mixed with milk) or sour drink (usually soda).

When the drinks came, she brought a shaker too and we were invited to chant "magic spells" to make the drink more delicious and guess what color will come out. For our drinks, she chanted something like "shake shake", and we had to say "nyan nyan" (cat meow). When the food came, we had to say "boing boing". Of course, we tried to act more "kawaii" despite our age to match up with their enthusiasm and youth. The maid asked us about what to draw on our omelettes and we were surprised at her talent! She tried to ask me what is Evacomics and acted very interested but I know it's acting and smiled to say it's just some online comics about Japan. It is my habit to pass people my namecard whenever they ask about Evacomics so I passed her my namecard anyway. I could sense that she didn't know what to do with my card later XD BTW, the omelette rice was good :3

My friend and I were busy catching up most of the time because we hadn't seen each other for more than 3 years so the girls sorta sensed that and didn't bother us too much. They went to entertain other lone guys instead. During our meal, there was a lucky draw and we got these cards... ... as the maids applauded and congratulated us, I was acting happy but wondering deep inside what an auntie do with a young girl's photo card...

Then came our polaroid photo-taking session after our meal. We were impressed by their creativity but their camera was sure horrible... There was a yellowish tint that made us look even more like old maids...

She gave us this point card after we paid our bill and we were once again, impressed by their creativity. PS. We each got 28 points and 30 points will reward us with another crappy photo. I didn't know why 3000yen got us so many points, but there were bonuses if you were a female and/or brought female companion, and if you came on a rainy day/exited within 60mins. Or...maybe there's a secret point system for old maids, particularly from foreign countries...

So... anybody want these cards? XD

Haven't been to a Maid Café ever since 2007, but they surely do have cute stuff there. And I'm talking about the food, not the girls! XDD

    1. XD Could you remember if your maid experience was similar?
I hadn't been to Akihabara since my first Japan trip in 2004.
Back then I only went there to do my anime and toys shopping, I was a true otaku!

    1. Nah, there were bonus points for girls and if you have a female partner.
Also bonus if you leave within 60mins.
      I don't know why 3000yen would give me 28 points... @@

  6. Went into one of the maid cafe with my mum and brother last year and we ended up laughing nonstop because of the cultural differences or what not, the cute and silly actions we were made to do. I remembered paying more since we didn't have a package and we were rather surprised that it was rather crowded on a weekday. They didn't really entertain us since we only spoke basic Japanese but it was quite an interesting experience to see how every other customer in the cafe being so enthusiastic.

    1. Wow you must have gone to a more popular maidcafe!
Pinafore has like 4 in Ikebukuro so I guess we went to the one off the main street and less popular.

Other customers... hmm mostly guys right?
